HOST A FOOD DRIVE

HOST A FOOD DRIVE

One of the awesome ways to fight hunger in our community is to host a food drive. It can be as simple or as extravagant as you like. There are tons of ideas out there and we have gathered just a few of them to share the possibilities. Whether you host a food drive with your family or a few friends, or a much larger group, such as your own office or school, the outcome always brings great help to our community.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS AND TIPS

  • Make it a Competition- Come up with a prize or incentive that will get your participants excited! Examples: Pizza Party, Raffle Entry Tickets, Gift Cards, etc.
  • Pick a Theme-Themes are always a fun way to get people excited about your food drive. An example would be 'Taco Night" where participants would bring items such as canned beans, chips, taco sauce, corn, and other non-perishable food items that match the theme. Other theme examples are: BBQ Drive, Back to School (peanut butter & jelly), Earth Day Food Drive (collect canned greens), etc.
  • Advertise!- Create flyers to post around town and create posts to share on social media promoting your event.
  • Location, location, location! - Make sure that you hold your food drive where it will be seen. Great ideas are public places such as in front of your local grocery store, libraries, schools, work office, etc. Make sure you have permission first.
  • Ask your local grocery store or convenience store if they would like to participate in your food drive and donate any non-perishable foods.
  • Make sure to thank all your participants for the great work they did by thank you notes, acknowledgement on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, through email, etc.
  • Please send us your pics!-Send us a picture of your group and donations so that we are able to share it on our website and Facebook so that your work can be multiplied as others want to achieve the same.
